The rare specimen and famous artist Joshua David Adkins stood and ran into eternity on September 9, 2024 surrounded and cheered on by his family, united in their love for him. Among them, his Mama was by his side, where she had faithfully been for over 41 years.
Born January 26, 1983, Josh was the only son of David and Elaine Adkins. As a warrior with Ataxia-Telangiectasia, he savored time with his sisters and nephews. Josh was a lover of Jesus, family, music, good food, travel, his feathered friends, and art - with discriminating taste! Josh experienced many great adventures provided by his family and his Daddy's strong back. You never saw Josh without one of his favorite Boston Scally caps, and you never talked to him without hearing about what he was planning to paint next. Today he is living out the truths in all the songs he loved best.
Josh was an accomplished artist, prolific in creativity, busy with commissions, pointed and focused in his message. "You were created for a purpose. You are special." Indeed, paired with his direct honesty, determination, grateful heart, and the wellspring of love that poured from his innermost being - it was easy to know that the same was infinitely true of Josh. He refused no opportunity to tell others that he loved them.
As Josh fulfills his purpose, he leaves his parents David and Elaine, his sisters Megon Steele and Heather Westad, his brothers-in-love Michael Steele and Josh #2 Westad, and his nephews Cade Joshua Steele, Joshua Colt Westad, and Levi Westad to carry on his legacy of love. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and fans who will continue to live differently for having known Josh.
We are left with unspeakable sorrow as we learn to live in an alien atmosphere without Josh. However, we rejoice knowing that our Joshy has heard his Creator say, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master's joy." Give Granny and the others bear hugs for us, buddy.
To honor his life, be like Josh. Be "Joshy." Love fiercely and vocally. Express gratitude. Tell the truth always. Search for the meaning in all things and do all things on purpose. Learn to listen to the Holy Spirit. And then, love some more.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the Ataxia-Telangiectasia Children's Project in Josh's memory at https://atcp.org/donate/
