It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joshua M. Poplawski on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the age of 38, a cherished member of our family who departed this life on a peaceful afternoon. Joshua's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a passion for sports, and a career marked by commitment and leadership.
Survived by his sons, Jayden Poplawski, and Jesus Vazquez; mother, Patricia Hanko; siblings, Christopher Reilly, Daniel (Carine) Poplawski, Laurie (Mike) Anderson, and Luke Poplawski; nieces and nephew, Nolan, Emma, and Aubrey; a very close cousin and dear friend, Derek Poplawski, and the mother of his son, Yadira Yepez. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends also survive.
Preceded in death by his father, Patrick Poplawski and his grandparents
Joshua graduated from Saint Patrick's Grade School in 2000 and from Joliet Catholic Academy in 2004.
Joshua's professional life was a testament to his work ethic and leadership skills, having dedicated himself to Pomp's Tire Service as a shift supervisor. His colleagues respected him for his ability to lead with compassion, and his team looked to him for guidance and support. For so many people at Pomp's Josh was more than just a coworker but a great friend who would do anything for anyone.
A devoted fan of all things Chicago sports, Joshua's enthusiasm for his hometown teams was infectious. He cherished the thrills of the game, whether it was on the field or the court. His love for sports was not just a pastime but a way to connect with others, especially through moments shared with family and friends, cheering, celebrating, or commiserating, always leading to an animated conversation of what those teams needed to do to win a championship.
Joshua's interests went beyond the roar of the crowd; he found tranquility and joy in fishing, a hobby that allowed him to embrace the serenity of nature. His love for cinema and television was another facet of his vibrant personality. He could often be found quoting lines from his favorite shows and movies, such as "The Office," "Game of Thrones," and the "Harry Potter" series, bringing laughter and light-heartedness to any conversation.
Above all, Joshua was a family man. His role as a father was the one he cherished most. His sons were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to support them in their sports endeavors. Joshua's presence on the sidelines was a source of encouragement and pride, and his unwavering support and love for his children were evident to all who knew him.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Joshua would describe him as loving, thoughtful, and kind. He had a heart that knew no bounds and a capacity for kindness that touched the lives of everyone around him. Joshua's thoughtfulness was a beacon of hope and comfort, and his benevolent spirit will be profoundly missed by all.
As we bid farewell to Joshua M. Poplawski, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. His laughter, camaraderie, and the warmth of his presence will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Joshua's legacy of love, friendship, and passion for life will continue to inspire those he has left behind. Though he may have departed from this world, the memories he created will remain etched in our hearts forever.
In honoring Joshua's love for The Office, a quote from Andy Bernard seems to convey our emotions in this moment precisely, "I Wish There Was A Way To Know You Were In The Good Old Days, Before You've Actually Left Them." We'll think of him often at every family gathering and in those quiet evening sunsets we'll reflect on his infectious smile. May he rest in peace, knowing he was loved immensely and will be deeply missed.
