Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home on Oct. 1, 2025.
Judith K. Cohen, age 94, of
Stamford, CT and formerly of Bayside, NY. The beloved daughter of Louis and Anna (Haber) Kaufman; she was married for 61 years to her beloved husband, the late Jerry Cohen.
Judy, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother devoted her time to her immediate and extended family. She loved nothing more than hosting large family Passover Seders usually lasting way past midnight.
She was born on September 4, 1930 and raised in the Bronx, NY. She graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School and then took a job as a bookkeeper at Shulsinger Brothers, a publishing company of Jewish books, board games, and the Passover Haggadah in Manhattan. She was introduced to her future husband, Jerry when his sister, Anita, and her brother, Murray, thought they would be a good as a couple. Jerry became the love of her life.
She loved sleeping late, cooking and baking for her family, always making sure her home was spotless, family gatherings, playing canasta, other card games with her grandchildren, low stakes blackjack, knitting, needlepoint, telling off color jokes, and always finding a bargain. She also bowled in a competitive league until well in to her 70s and was relentlessly recruited to join a Wii Bowling team while living at Atria.
Family meant a lot to her as she maintained a close supportive relationship with her brothers, Jack, Murray, and Charlie Kaufman and their children. She was known for never missing the birthday or anniversary of each of her many nieces and nephews and their spouses and sent cards to them on their special day.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry, her three brothers and their spouses, Jack (Geri), Murray (Sylvia) and Charlie (Shirley) Kaufman, her niece, Michele Kaufman Levine and her granddaughter, Robyn Rich.
She is survived by three daughters; Amy Cohen (Maura), Patchogue, NY, Lori Josephson (Rich), Bradenton, FL, and Susan Rich,
Stamford, CT. Her grandchildren; Emily (Eric) Black, Denver, CO, Adam (Sydney) Josephson, Atlanta, GA, Mitchell (Jen) Josephson, Madison, WI. Michael Rich,
Stamford, CT and Jennifer Rich, Encinitas, CA. Her great-grandchildren; Jeri, Caleb, Molly, and Liora Josephson. Also, lovingly known as Aunt Judy by numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
