Julia Ames

Julia (Earls) Ames.
Age 87 of Horseheads, NY. She was born November 27th 1935 in Albany, NY, the daughter of the late Raymond and Marguerite (Meyers) Earls. Julia passed away on April 6th 2023 in peace.
In addition to her parents, Julia is predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 42 years, Winthrop A. "Skip" Ames Jr., in 2013; her brother Allen Earls; sister Margaret "Peggy" Horsman; and brothers in law Robert & Roger Ames.
She is survived by her children Allen Ames & Michelle Ames, both of of Raleigh, NC; sister Martha Doane; nieces and nephews, Marlea Ward, Joelle Pemberton, and Jeff Horsman; along with her extended family, many dear friends, and neighbors.
Julia spent her life in faith, a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads. Within the church, she is remembered for establishing the rummage sales and funeral luncheons; her initial efforts making these foundational programs in the church. She received her degree from an Albany County College, and worked for General Electric until she and Skip started their family. As she reared her children, Julia also contributed her time and effort to organizations including The Order of the Eastern Star, Home Bureau, and the United Methodist Women. A woman blessed with a strong 'green thumb', her gardens flourished with anything she decided to grow. She was blessed with a gentle, loving personality that spread sunshine to whomever she interacted with. Julia will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
Family and friends are invited to visit the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads, 1034 West Broad Street, Horseheads, NY on Saturday, April 15th 2023 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held there in the Sanctuary at 3 pm with Pastor Jeff McDowell officiating. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Julia with a donation to the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads.
