Karl E. Macon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and craftsman, passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in New York City, Karl lived a life defined by service, hard work, creativity, and deep love for his family.
At just 17, Karl made the bold decision to enlist in the United States Air Force, receiving his parents' blessing to do so. He spent much of his military service stationed in Germany, an experience that shaped his sense of discipline and global perspective. Following his honorable discharge, Karl began a long and successful career as a Chemical Technician with Rohm & Haas Chemical Company in Bristol, Pennsylvania, while simultaneously attending Rutgers College at night-a testament to his unwavering determination and work ethic.
Karl retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1996 after 38 years of dedicated service. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a talented artist and woodworker who took pride in designing and building furniture. He found great joy in playing bocce, golf, pool, bowling and traveling with his beloved wife, Joan, and treasured every moment spent with his family-especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
Karl was the son of Edwin and Katherine Macon. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Gene and Hal Marshall. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joan A. Macon; his daughters, Patricia Lee Talbot, Sharon M. (John) Garrity, and Sandra (Duane) Malone; his five grandchildren, Scott, Nicole, Stephanie, Shawn, and Chelsea; his great-grandchild, Rowan; his sister, Martha Spallina; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
Karl's legacy is one of strength, kindness, dedication, and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
