Our beloved mother and grandmother, Katherine Shadid, passed into eternal glory on November 2, 2024, at the age of 95. She passed peacefully at her home in Oklahoma City, surrounded by her family and is now reunited with the love of her life and beloved husband, A. Phil Shadid.

God blessed her with nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and granted her a rich, eventful life. In all her years, Katherine never lost her commitment to teaching her children and grandchildren about the values of life and the importance of hard work. She had an incredible gift for humor and a natural ability to connect with others, always making them feel truly special.

Katherine was born in Drumright, Oklahoma, on February 11, 1929, to Meeble and Zakia Deeba. She attended Drumright High School and the University of Oklahoma. Residing in Oklahoma City, Katherine was a successful businesswoman, a devoted member of her community, and a loving mother to Cindy, Frank, and Stephanie.

Katherine owned and ran Modern Liquors, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. For over fifty years, she was a spirited and successful businesswoman and was extremely well recognized within the liquor industry. She was a devout and lifelong member of St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church, where she was active in the St. Elijah Ladies Aid Club and a member of the Order of St. Ignatius. Katherine was also a member of the Bonne Heure Club for many years, a charitable organization that raised money for many philanthropic causes. These ladies became lifelong friends that Katherine cherished, sharing stories and the love of their heritage.

Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, A. Phil Shadid; her parents, Meeble and Zakia Deeba; her sister, Lorene Farha; her brother, Elmer Deeba; and her brother-in-law, Andy Kraker. She is also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Alexandra and Hafeeth Shadid, as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law, Amy and Edmund Massad, Sam and Nadia Shadid, Sameera and Dr. Ray Cohlmia, and Yevonne and Harry Homsey.

Katherine is survived by her children, Cindy and Richard Homsey, Frank and Vicki Shadid, and Stephanie and Greg Shanbour, all of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Kraker of Oklahoma City, brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Cookie Deeba of Oklahoma City, sister and brother-in-law Janelle and Floyd Rashid of Peoria, Illinois, and sister-in-law Florene Deeba of Oklahoma City.

Known as “Sitty” to her grandchildren—Dominique, Trey, Chad, Noelle, Jeffrey, Gregory, Shane, Blake, and Spencer—and to all her 13 great-grandchildren, Katherine’s legacy will live on through her family. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Archil Daugherty for her years of care and love for our mother, as well as to Teresa Osburn for her kindness, love, and care whenever it was needed.

Visitation will be held at Smith & Kernke on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Fairlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Flowers That Do Not Wither” Fund at St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church.

“Lord, when we ask why, grant us the strength to know that through suffering, our faith can deepen. So, thank you Lord for your promise in all things.”
