Lorraine K. Shadid, 93, of Peoria, Il passed peacefully at 12:02 am on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Lorraine was born on April 30, 1931, to Harry and Sadie (Abraham) Unes. She married George P. Shadid on May 30, 1953. He predeceased her on February 3, 2018.
She is survived by her son, James (Jane) Shadid, daughter-in-law, Mikie Shadid, and four grandchildren, James (Anne) Shadid, Joseph (Lauren Powell) Shadid, Margaret (Grant Bosnich) Shadid and Lauren Shadid, as well as her sister Norma Joseph and brothers Leonard (Eileen) and David (Marie) and sisters-in-law, Patricia (Murphy) Unes, Carol (Bonucchi) Unes and Sue (Gary) Weaver.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, George P. Shadid, Jr, as well as her siblings Lawrence, Ken, Donald, Harriet (Fred) Bostany, Helen (John) Domenighini and Maurice Joseph.
Lorraine lived a full life. She was a happy and optimistic person who believed in the goodness of everyone. She treasured her family and friends and was able to see her grandchildren grow into adults and had a relationship with each that shared cooking, humor, joy and an abundance of love. She worked for many years at the Bradley University Cullom-Davis Library where she supplied students (including two of her Bradley University grandchildren) with baked goods and laughs on a regular basis. She had special relationships with many of her nieces and nephews. She leaves a legacy of kindness and kindheartedness and fond memories many of us will have when we think of her.
Her services will be at St. Sharbel Catholic Church. Chorbishop Faouzi Elia will preside over the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am Friday, November 15, 2024 with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am prior. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband and son.
Memorials may be made to the George P. Shadid, Jr. Memorial Scholarship at Bradley University or to Easterseals- Autism Services or The OSF Richard L Owens Hospice Home.
Lorraine's family thanks the dedicated, wonderful, and loving people at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home who helped Lorraine peacefully pass to Eternal Life.
