Kathleen Marie Brooks, known affectionately as Kathy, a beacon of courage, love, and support, passed away on August 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on November 21, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA, Kathleen's life was characterized by her unwavering reliability and a heart full of love. A woman of immense strength, Kathleen valiantly fought cancer four times, never letting it overshadow her radiant spirit. Throughout her life, she was a superwoman for her children, an anchor in the storm, and a source of inspiration for all who knew her.
Kathleen's life was one of service and care. She worked tirelessly as a waitress in many restaurants and also in a childcare center, always met customers and parents with a warm smile and a listening ear. She also helped run a catering business with her friend; the business was called Change of Taste. Kathleen was also involved in many local community churches; she was a caterer for Grace Community Bible Church and Bensalem Baptist Church. She loved to cook for the men's monthly breakfast at Grace Community. Even though she worked a full-time job her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children as a single mother. Beyond her professional life, Kathleen was an avid lover of arts and crafts. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as caring for her beloved plants and grocery shopping. Her greatest pride and joy, however, were her grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them, her love for them as vibrant and enduring as the plants she nurtured with so much care.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Joseph Downey, Sr., Melissa Brooks, and Jessica Ashman, along with her grandchildren, McKayla, Joseph Jr., Jake, and Justin. She also leaves behind her siblings Tracy, Rosie, Barbara, Nancy, Joe, Howard, Doug, Lynn and Mary. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Jane Walton and Carol Brooks and her beloved sister, Jane. As we say farewell to this exceptional woman, we remember not just her as the supportive, reliable, and loving individual she was, but also the incredible legacy she leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet her family Friday, September 12, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Lambie Funeral Home, 8000 Rowland Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19136. Interment will be private at the family's request.
We encourage all who knew Kathleen to leave memories and upload photos to her memorial page. In this way, we can continue to celebrate Kathleen's life, sharing the love and joy she brought into our lives, and keep her memory alive for generations to come.
