Kathy Laurene Hobbs was welcomed into her Saviour's Arms on October 31, 2023 after a long and painful illness. Mrs. Hobbs was known by her smile that would light up a room, she never knew a stranger. Kathy was born on February 18,1955 to Dillard A. Taylor and Geneval Tackett-Taylor in Norton, Virginia. After a coal mining accident, the family decided to move to Abilene where they planted roots and raised a family. She attended Abilene High School completing 11th grade. Kathy Hobbs married several times throughout her life. She worked at the Abilene State Supportive Living Center for years, as well as a waitress, nursing home caregiver and ward clerk.
Later in life, she met and married William Hobbs on September 8,1990, and they were blessed with a surprise baby girl on September 28,1994. Her daughter was her world and she devoted herself to being the best mother to her baby girl and any other child that needed a mother figure. Her main goal for all her kids who she cherished, was to love the Lord and seek Him always. Kathy worked tirelessly beside her husband and daughter, whether it was outside in the heat or running their church's children bus ministry that was their pride and joy or cooking meals for someone.
She was proud of her mountain heritage and she was known for walking around singing bluegrass and gospel hymns. One of her most cherished memories she would talk about was her nephew Aaron. He had given her a little toy car when he was little and he told "sissy" as he called her to hold it for him till he came back. She held that and the memory of that day in her heart till the day she passed.
In her later years, she enjoyed reading Southern Living Magazines, watching Gunsmoke and westerns with her grandson and best buddy and recollected growing up, she always kept the porch light on for anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by both parents, brother Stevie, late husband William Hobbs, grandparents and many more loved ones.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Sarai and her family, brother Wayne Taylor and wife formally of Wichita Falls, Texas, her beloved nephew Aaron and Susan her niece followed by Linda Stanley formally of Clint Wood, Virginia, multiple cousins and beloved stepchildren and step grandchildren from previous marriage.
There will be a private cemetery gathering at a later date.
