Katie Shannon Osborne left this life peacefully on March 29, 2024, at the age of 99 to join her family on the other side. She was bound and determined to make it to 100, but didn't quite make it, even though she had been telling everyone for the last few years that she was already over 100 years old.
Katie was born on February 6th, 1925, in Gulfport, Mississippi to George and Mary Louise Saucier. She grew up on a small farm where she first developed her love for animals. Katie was the third of 5 children and the last surviving. She will be buried in Moab, Utah beside her first husband. While working as a waitress in the local Bus Station, she caught the eye of a handsome sailor, James Michael Shannon, and they were married on January 29,1944 (James Shannon born March 27,1916, died Oct 24,1976).
Together they were blessed with and raised six children. Shirley Ann Lamb, James Patrick Shannon, Joni Marie Gore, Mary Louise Malnar, Wallace Arnold Shannon, and John Alvin Shannon. Katie never met a stranger. Whether it was someone at the grocery store or someone walking down the street, she would start up a conversation and more often than not, they would find out more about Katie than they probably wanted to know. They always left the conversation with a smile. She was a grandmother to all the kids in the neighborhood. She always had cookies on hand for any child that knocked on her door.
Katie remarried later in life to Chares Henry Osborne (died 2003).
Katie loved her 27 grandchildren and her 29 great grandchildren. Her greatest loves were her faith and her family. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her love and wisdom will live on in the hearts of her family.
The family would like to extend their sincere love and appreciation for all of Katie's caregivers, particularly the nurses and staff from Red Cliff's Health and Rehab and long-term care. Our time with Katie these past several years has largely been affected by their professional and tender care and we can't thank them enough.
A celebration of life will be held in late May.
