Kenneth Tyrone Groves was born on February 15, 1954, in Richmond, Virginia, and
transitioned from this earthly life on September 26, 2024, at his home in Temple Hills,
Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Louis Groves and Mary Lou
Taylor Groves, and his brother, Kevin Groves.
Kenneth was educated in the District of Columbia Public School system. He was a
dedicated businessman and skilled auto mechanic, proudly owning Hillside Towing
Company for 11 years. He also worked as an NC Specialist for Kay Management, and
later, he was employed by FEBA as an usher at the MGM National Harbor in Fort
Washington, MD, where he earned the affectionate title "Usher for Life."
In 2000, Kenneth met the love of his life, Edna, whom he affectionately called "My
Sweetie," at the City of Praise Family Ministries. They were married in April 2001.
Kenneth was a devout Christian, having given his life to Christ, and he served in the
church's Video Ministry for 21 years. He deeply loved his church family and the work he
did there. Kenneth was known for his friendly spirit-he was never a stranger, whether
in the neighborhood, at the store, or in church. He was always ready to lend a helping
hand to anyone in need.
Kenneth shared a special bond with his best friend, Donald Raper. Together, they
shared a passion for antique cars and enjoyed attending car shows. Kenneth also loved
working on cars, tending to his yard, playing chess, shooting pool and traveling with his
wife. He was also a devoted Commanders fan (Washington Redskins).
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 23 years, Edna Groves, of Temple
Hills, MD; his son, Kenneth Groves Jr. of Baltimore, MD; four daughters, Kenesha
Richardson (Gerard) of Henrico, VA, Eunice Steele (Donald) of Temple Hills, MD,
Natalie Tyce (Larry) of Riverdale, MD, and Zenia Sahadeo (Richard) of Bowie, MD; one
brother, Keith Groves (Charlene) of East Norriton, PA; two sisters, Kimberly Daniels
(Angelo) of Germantown, MD, and Karen Groves of Lusby, MD; his aunt, Gloserine
Bradsher of California, MD; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two godchildren;
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Kenneth's love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was immeasurable, and
he enjoyed every moment spent with them. He will be remembered for his generosity,
kindness, and the love he so freely gave to everyone he met. Kenneth was the type of
person who would sacrifice his own comfort to ensure the happiness and well-being of
others. His home was always filled with warmth, and his infectious smile and laughter
could light up any room.
Kenneth's memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy of love,
service, and kindness will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
