Kenneth "Ken" Itter, a spirited soul known for his friendly demeanor and kind heart, passed away on May 6, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on April 16, 1927, in Chicago, IL, Ken's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and the joy of simple pleasures. He left this world in Naperville, IL, due to respiratory failure, surrounded by the fond memories of friends and family.
Ken grew up in the bustling city of Chicago, where he completed his high school education before answering the call of duty to serve his country. As a proud World War II veteran, Ken held the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Army and served with honor in Germany. His experiences during the war shaped him into a man of resilience and deep patriotism, traits that he carried throughout his life.
After returning from the war, Ken applied the discipline and skills he had acquired in the military to his civilian career. He became a respected electrician and engineer at the Drake Hotel in Chicago, a position he held with pride for many years. Ken's work ethic and dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and guests at the iconic hotel.
A longtime resident of Skokie, IL, Ken was an integral part of his community. He was the beloved husband of the late Inez, and although they shared many years of happiness, their time together was never quite enough. Ken was also a loving brother to the late Robert, Ruth, and Edwin, and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. His family remembers him as a pillar of strength and a source of unconditional love.
Ken's interests were as genuine as his smile. He had a passion for country western music, which often served as the soundtrack to his life's moments. An avid bowler, he spent many an evening at the local lanes, sharing laughs and friendly competition with his team. Ken was also a devoted sports fan, particularly enjoying professional golf and baseball. He followed the Chicago Cubs with fervor, his spirits lifted with every win they secured.
Those who knew Ken would describe him as a man who lived life with zest. His spirited nature was infectious, and his friendly, kind approach to everyone he met made a lasting impression. Ken's legacy is one of joy, camaraderie, and the gentle warmth of a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Kenneth Itter, we celebrate the memories he leaves behind and the impact he made on the lives of those around him. His story is a testament to a life filled with purpose, kindness, and the pursuit of happiness. Ken's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
