Kenneth J. Kotas passed away on October 8, 2025, after a brief illness. Ken was born on March 14, 1952, to Adam and Alice (Kujawa) Kotas. Ken lived his entire life in Toledo's Polish Village. He was proud of his neighborhood and loved the home he lived in which originated with his paternal grandparents. Ken attended St. Adalbert School and continued his education at Central Catholic High School and the University of Toledo. For thirty years, Ken was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2015.
Ken had a passion for music, and this was evident with his vast collection of recordings. He enjoyed everything from classical music to jazz, and polka to rock and roll. Ken's love for The Beatles took him from childhood to adulthood and allowed him to become a collector of music in his own right. This love of music contributed to his enjoyment of attending performances of the Toledo Symphony, and various shows at the Valentine Theatre and Stranahan Auditorium. Ken also was a lifelong Detroit Tigers and Red Wings fan.
When describing Ken, one word strongly comes to mind. That word is "devoted." Ken was extremely devoted to his parents, especially to his mother. Ken lived with his parents until the time of their passing. Their deaths were extremely difficult for him, but his devotion to their memory was steadfast. It is comforting knowing that he has been reunited with them.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Alice; paternal grandparents, Waclaw and Stella Kotas; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Verna Kujawa; aunts, Cecilia (Stanley) Skrzynecki and Dorothy (Ollie) Grzechowiak. Ken is survived by his cousin, Annette Grzechowiak.
Annette wishes to extend her deepest thanks to her friends who helped during Ken's brief illness. Their love, support and guidance will forever be remembered and cherished. It is said that family is made by the heart. These friends are heart-made family.
Kenny, rest easy. Wrap yourself in the love of your parents and the family that you are now reunited with. You will forever be remembered by all whose lives you've touched and whose lives you've changed. -Annette
