Kevin Patrick McKinney, a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly, passed away peacefully at home in Lansing, MI on October 18th, 2025, at the age of 69. He was born on June 7th, 1956, in Detroit, MI, son of Stanley and Nancy (Berrie) McKinney.
Kevin graduated from Redford Union High School class of 1974, where he met his wife-to-be at 15-years-old, Deborah (Wilson) McKinney. They went on to be wed for 48 loving years. Kevin retired from General Motors in 2006, where he was a proud assembly line worker. He then worked as a green's keeper at Fox Hills Golf Course for 10 years and also as a school bus driver for Farmington Hills School district for another 10 years.
Kevin's life was enriched by the love of his daughters and granddaughters, Kellie (Troy) Ward and her daughters Raegan and Morgan Ward, Jaclyn (Ian Dougan) McKinney; mother-in-law Emma Wilson; sister Janice (Greg) White; brother Gary (Theresa) McKinney; brother and sister-in-law Brian (Sheryl) Wilson and Sandra (Craig) Smallwood; nieces and nephews Becky (Joe) Mammel, Kari (Jake) Sidaway, Amy (Aaron) Gabbard, Micheal Smallwood, Jason (Elaina) Smallwood, Scott Smallwood, Ashleigh (Joe) Cassels, and Brian Wilson Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Nancy McKinney, father-in-law Donald Wilson, and brother-in-law Donald Wilson Jr.
Kevin's affection for the outdoors was evident to any who knew him. He could often be found on the golf course, mowing and landscaping his lawn, or enjoying the ocean. In his earlier years he enjoyed boating and had a boat on Lake St. Claire. He also enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles. Throughout his life, he has owned a 1976 Stingray Corvette, a 2015 Corvette, and a 1999 Harley Road King Classic. He would look forward to his visits to Colorado to see his daughter, Jaclyn, where he and Deborah would take the Harley on a cruise through the beautiful mountains.
Kevin was an avid animal lover. Throughout his life, he provided a loving home for several dogs and cats. Later in life, he enjoyed playing with and spoiling his grand-dogs.
Kevin was a die-hard Detroit sports fan. He was a 10-year season ticket holder of the Detroit Lions. He also enjoyed heading downtown to root on the Red Wings or Tigers. Kevin also enjoyed rooting for his daughter's alma maters, Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!) and Michigan State University (Go Green!).
Kevin loved and was proud to be born in Detroit, MI. However, nothing made him prouder or filled with love more than his girls, Deborah, Kellie, Jaclyn, Raegan, and Morgan.
