As a neighbor and fellow member of First Baptist Church of Dickinson County, I remember Lawana when she moved to our community. She taught my Vacation Bible School, Scripture Memory and Sunday School classes. I remember her boys as infants and watched them grow. Lawana and Paul were part of a group of church members and neighbors that helped my family after I was injured in 1968 and I will be forever thankful for their kindness. Lawana and Paul were present at every church function that I remember. Their faith and dedication were an important influence to me and many others.
Lawana also became my teacher at Hope High in some of my favorite classes. She guided me in activities such as the school newspaper and Annual Staff.
My condolences to Mark, Monte, and extended family.

I first knew Mrs. Kohman as my English and speech teacher as well as forensics sponsor/teacher. She excelled in all areas but I especially remember her in speech and forensics and helping students perform publicly in situations that could be intimidating or uncomfortable. In later years she became my mother´s best friend and a good friend to our family. Meals at her home were always a treat. One day I spent time at her house copying some of her delicious recipes. I will admit it was difficult to not call her Mrs. Kohman even when I was an adult and became a family friend. Lawana´s strong faith was a testament to others. She will be fondly remembered by so many people whose lives she touched and enriched.
