ALEXANDRIA, IN – Lewis E. "Lew" Hannah, 78, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at CHO St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He was born on June 1, 1947, in Anderson, Indiana to Donald and Beverly (Hall) Hannah relocating to Magnolia, Arkansas in 1981. Lew was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1965. In his teen years, Lew worked as a clerk in the Alexandria train depot west of south Harrison Street. Lew served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam war entering in June of 1966 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant (T) in June of 1968. He was one of the "tunnel rats," soldiers who entered the Viet Cong tunnels to clear them, gather intelligence and eliminate the VC enemy. This was a feat few men were able to perform and even fewer survived. Upon returning home, Lew attended Ball State University. For short period of time, he was a barber in Yorktown.
Moving to Magnolia, Arkansas in 1981, he became co-owner of Gallery 111, where he framed artwork, family portraits, made shadow boxes out of treasured items and created other works for numerous customers in Magnolia and surrounding areas over several decades. Lew was a skilled artisan and carpenter, and he was instrumental in helping preserve historic homes and remodeling others in the area. His other passions included breeding Cocker Spaniels for show on professional circuits and raising several beloved Great Danes.
