Linda Jean Fisher, a beacon of love and compassion, gained her heavenly angel wings on September 10, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 14, 1949, in Traverse City, Michigan, Linda's journey was marked by her unwavering faith, and the deep bonds she formed with her family and community leaving behind a legacy of kindness and caring that touched the lives of many.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother Audrey Dewar and father Harold "Russ" Gilbert, and her sister Georgia (Otho) Weller. Linda was the cherished mother of Tiffany (Erich) Vedder and Tammy (Robert) Stahelin. She was the proud sister of Larry (Mary) Gilbert, Tim (Deb) Gilbert, Mary Blankenship, and Sandi Currey. Linda was also a beloved aunt to Audrey (Greg) Klont, Amber (Alejandro) Lopez, Jon Gilbert, Kimberly (Chris) Johnson, Emily (Dave) Spitz, Norman and Tim (Daphne) Gilbert and Sean and Michael Weller. Her life was further enriched by the companionship of Tom Groothuis, with whom she shared many treasured moments.
Linda's compassionate heart led her to a fulfilling career in nursing, a vocation she pursued with a degree from Lansing Community College. Her years of dedicated service at Sparrow Hospital and Eaton County Palliative Care were marked by countless moments of tenderness and care, touching the lives of many patients and their families. Her commitment to her patients was evident in every interaction, as she provided not only medical care but also emotional support and understanding.
Linda's nurturing spirit extended well beyond her professional duties. She was an integral part of the St. Gerard Funeral Ministry, offering comfort and support to those grieving the loss of loved ones. Her faith was her guiding light, shining brightly in the way she loved and served those around her. She was a loving and faith-filled individual, whose kindness was felt by all who knew her. Her ability to bring warmth and comfort to any situation was truly remarkable, and her gentle presence will be deeply missed. Linda's Catholic faith guided her actions and gave her strength, inspiring her to live a life of service and compassion.
Above all, Linda adored her grandchildren and family. She found her greatest joy in the laughter and love that filled her home during family gatherings. Some of her most cherished highlights were when she was attending her grandkids' school and sporting events and band concerts. The ability to be there to celebrate the achievements, wins and to comfort with the losses, is what she loved to do. Her interests, while varied, always circled back to the importance of family and faith. She enjoyed her weekly dinners with her sister in law, visiting with neighbors, keeping up with other nieces, nephews, and family members through phone calls, visits or social media. Linda's life was a testament to the power of love and the impact one person can have on the lives of many.
As we say goodbye to Linda Jean Fisher, we celebrate her extraordinary life-a life lived with purpose, grace, and an abundance of love.
