With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Lisa (Berman) Sedgwick, age 34, on January 14, 2025, in Austin, Texas, following a courageous 12-month battle with breast cancer.
Born in Westerville, Ohio, Lisa grew up in Powell, Ohio, where she was a beloved daughter and sister. She graduated from Olentangy Liberty High School and earned her degree from
Wittenberg University where she made many lifelong friendships. After college, Lisa worked with the Ohio Pharmacists Association in Columbus, where she found a love for association management and nonprofits that would inspire her to later get her CAE credentials. She moved to Austin, Texas with her husband, and began work with the Austin Apartment Association where she worked for a few years before taking her dream job with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Lisa left lasting impressions everywhere because of her great work ethic and ability to make fast friends.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lisa was an avid volunteer, dedicating her time to
The Special Olympics in Delaware County as a coach and to one on one provider relationships, where she inspired many with her passion for supporting others.
A lifelong lover of sports and being active, Lisa had a joy for both tennis and distance running. She embraced these activities not only as hobbies but as ways to challenge herself and stay connected to the world around her. She made many friendships through both.
Lisa's true joy, however, was her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Tim Sedgwick, and a loving mother to their daughter, Abigail, whose love and laughter brought light to her life. She is also survived by her parents, Mike and Karen Berman; father-in-law, Larry Sedgwick; siblings, Ben (and Lesley), Rachel, and Stephen (and Harley) Berman, Brandon (and Rachel), and Kellie Sedgwick; 8 nieces and nephews; 2 dogs, Milo and Sebastian; as well as many cherished relatives and friends. Lisa's family was the center of her world, and she made every moment spent with them count.
Throughout her life, Lisa was known for her generosity, optimism, and unshakable strength-qualities she displayed most profoundly during her year-long fight with cancer. Even in the face of immense challenges, Lisa maintained a hopeful outlook, inspiring everyone around her with her resilience. Her legacy is one of love, family, and the determination to make the most of every moment.
A celebration of Lisa's life will be held on Monday, Jan 27, 2025 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at
Rutherford Funeral Home, in Powell, Ohio and the Funeral Service will be Tuesday, Jan 28, 2025 at 10am at Rutherford with a graveside to follow. The family invites all who knew Lisa to join in honoring her memory and the incredible impact she had on so many lives.
