Louise Murray Gettys, age 92 of Ellenboro, NC, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Born September 5, 1932, in Rutherford County, NC, Louise was the daughter of the late Paul Durham Murray and Agnes May Green Murray and was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Emmett Gettys, and her siblings, Lester Murray and Walter Murray.
She is survived by her children, Rodella Gold (Joe), Marilyn Powell (Gary), George Gettys (Donna), Walter Gettys, and Calvin Gettys (Dana), nine grandchildren, Jason Gold (Emily), James Gold (Christa), Anna Ledford (Jason), Laura Gammons (Patrick), Kelly Morris, Samantha Gettys Holick (Stephen), Morgan Laughlin (Spencer), Carson Gettys, and Grant Gettys, twelve great grandchildren, Noah Gold, Katherine Gold, Jude Ledford, Aliza Ledford, Eva Morris, Cade Morris, Harper Gammons, McCoy Gammons, Ridge Laughlin, Knox Laughlin, Landry Gold, and Rowen Gold, three sisters, Eunice Murray Hoppes (Earl), Ruth Murray Arrowood (Ronnie), and Betty Murray Smith (Dennis), and numerous nieces and nephews.
With her husband, they were self-reliant. While raising five children, they had a huge garden and raised cattle. She worked to preserve fruits and vegetables. With a little help, she once canned 81 quarts of beans in one day.
Through the years, she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and part of mission organizations. She made various crafts to sell for the proceeds that had to go to “the Lord’s work”. She was a prayer warrior for everyone. If you asked her to pray for something, you better be serious because her prayers went high and straight to the Throne room of our Lord.
