Luaine A. Herzog, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at her home in Sheboygan.

Luaine was born October 26, 1939 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Raymond and Elva (Damrow) Herzog. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1958, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Milwaukee Downer College in elementary education and psychology, and a Master’s Degree from UW-Milwaukee in language and learning disabilities. She earned additional credits towards a specialist degree for special education administration. For nearly 40 years, Luaine worked as a teacher, first in Oconomowoc (1962-1968) as an elementary teacher and later in Racine (1968-1999) as a learning disability teacher. In Racine, she also was a learning disability diagnostician for the multidisciplinary students. She retired in 1999.

She was an active member in the local education associations, The Wisconsin Education Association and the Wisconsin Council for Exceptional Children. As a founding member of the Wisconsin Education for Learning Disabilities, she served as its first treasurer and thereafter as legislative chairperson for several years. She also had membership in the National Education Association, the National Council for Exceptional Children and the National Division for Learning Disabilities. She also was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Chapter in Racine.

A longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran, she sang in the choir in her high school years. Later she participated in Ladies Auxiliary, St. Paul Seniors, the funeral committee and worked on assembly of church bulletins and for various church events.

Luaine was a kind and giving person who was always willing to assist others. She was caregiver for her parents for a number of years, and also assisted several elderly relatives. In recent years, her brother Wayne cared for her with the same love and compassion.

She enjoyed baking, flower gardening, watching birds, reading (especially mysteries), singings and listening to gospel and country music, doing puzzles and a variety of arts and crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with all her family

Luaine is survived by her brother Wayne (LaFaye) Herzog; sister-in-law Beverly Herzog; nephews and nieces: Linda (Will Grube) Herzog, Keisha (Matt) Ervasti and their daughters Adelaide and Iyla; Ashley (Jake) Bowman and children Ruby and Jax, Richard (Sara) Herzog and their children Nicholas and Jacob, and Benjamin Herzog; other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother William Herzog, all her aunts and uncles and three cousins.

Funeral Services for Luaine will take place at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 13, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 730 County Hwy PPP in Sheboygan Falls. The family will receive visitors at the church Monday from 10:00AM-12:00 noon.

She will be laid to rest at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery beside her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church to be used for scholarships for church members attending K-College Lutheran schools.
