Luke Raymond Thatcher

Luke Raymond Thatcher, 22, of Carmel, passed away on October 20, 2023. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Neil and Sarah Thatcher on December 21, 2000. Luke graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, and he was working as a Greenhouse Assistant at Inari, a seed technology company. He greatly enjoyed his work.
Luke had previously attended Carmel High School. Together with his brothers Ben and Sebby, Luke was a keen Boy Scout and lived by the Boy Scout Oath and Law throughout his life. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was also the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 112 at Carmel Lions Club. For his Eagle Scout project he made raised planters and picnic benches for Noble which is an organization serving people with learning disabilities in central Indiana.
While at Purdue, he gained an interest in aquaponics and was listed as a co-author on two graduate research projects. He was aiming to eventually study for a master's degree in aquaponics.
Luke enjoyed spending time with his family; he was a skilled snowboarder, wakeboarder and enjoyed driving the family ski boat. Luke's greatest passion was jiu-jitsu; he was an Assistant Coach and trained under Coach Stephen Hall, jiu-jitsu black belt at Asgard Combat Sports in Lafayette.
He is survived and loved by his parents; brothers, Ben and Sebby; uncles and aunts, Nick and Tre, Tim and Donna, Jeremy and Penny, Paco and Amanda; as well as many cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Aaron- Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, on Friday, November 3rd at 10 AM and will be live streamed. Click here to view the service.
Burial will follow in Zionsville Cemetery after which there will be a reception for all at the Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary.
