Lynn Tumlin Hanson (1934-2025)
Lynn Tumlin Hanson passed away at Piedmont Athens Regional on Monday, February 3, 2025. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and her love of her family.
Born in Flowery Branch, Georgia to parents John and Ruth Tumlin on October 18, 1934. She was the sixth child of seven children. The large family of one brother and six sisters grew up in Madison, Georgia after losing their mother Ruth early in her life. There are many stories of the Tumlin girls along with their brother "Chief" growing up in Madison. With so many girls there were always games and fun to be had. Her siblings were Edith Brock, Clint Tumlin, Sara Mills, Sybil Bradbury, Martha Dotson and Anne Smith. Lynn is survived by her sister Martha Dotson of Chatsworth, Georgia.
Lynn graduated from Morgan County High School. Many remember her for her many years as a teller at the Bank of Madison.
Lynn and Joe Hanson were married in 1955 and enjoyed 69 years of life side-by-side. They raised their two daughters, Kim Hanson Hudgins and Cindy Hanson Baldwin on their farm on Pierce Dairy Road. They built their life farming and owning a country store famous for Joe's barbecue and Lynn's delicious barbecue sauce. She will be remembered for her kindness and gentle spirit. She was an excellent cook and could almost always be found in either her kitchen or reading in her favorite chair.
Lynn and Joe's family of four grew to brood of 17 and Lynn enjoyed every moment of it. Kim is married to Jai Hudgins with their 2 daughters, Amy Hudgins Gravitt, husband Brandon and their three children Katelyn, Sadie and RJ; and daughter Lew Hudgins Dickens husband Nathan. Cindy married Gene Baldwin and they have two children Ashley Baldwin Johns, husband Clint and their two children Charlie and Harris; and son Hanson Baldwin. Lynn and Joe's commitment to one another was an example to both families, who have enjoyed life side-by-side, as well. Lynn especially loved her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and hearing their stories. She kept every piece of artwork they ever made for her and clipped articles from the paper about her family and friends. All of these 17 family members survive Lynn and will cherish their time with her and her example of family commitment and kindness (with a little sense of humor).
The memorial service will be held Friday, February 7, 11:00 AM at the Madison Baptist Church of Madison. Family visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
