Margaret (Maggie) Ellen Anderson passed away peacefully, at The Oaks at Algonquin Senior Living, on March 15, 2023 at 10:19am, surrounded by her family.
Maggie was born to Harold and Elaine Mortensen on August 19, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up with her younger sister Sharon (Vavra), younger brother Hal Mortensen, and younger sister Krista (Hoerr), in River Grove Illinois. She graduated from East Leyden High School in 1965, and Northern Illinois University, with a Bachelors of Science in Education, in 1968.
Maggie married Gary Paul Anderson on December 21, 1968, and they resided in an apartment in Elgin for 1 year before moving to Hoffman Estates until 1976. During this time, Maggie and Gary had 3 children, Brian, Amy, and Neal. In 1976 Maggie and Gary built and moved to their home in Schaumburg. They lived there for 47 years.
Maggie worked for Elk Grove High School for 1 year in the Physical Education Department before staying home to raise their children. She then went back to work at Schaumburg High School for nearly 20 years before retiring to stay home and care for her grandchildren.
Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Gary Anderson; her 3 children Brian (Diane) Anderson, Amy (Chuck) Harder, and Neal (Erica) Anderson; and 8 grandchildren Michael Anderson, Melissa Harder, Sarah Harder, Brandon Anderson, Matt Harder, Aleksia Anderson, Arlyn Anderson, and Adalie Anderson.
Maggie is also survived by her younger siblings Sharon (the late Daniel) Vavra, Hal (Karen) Mortensen, and Krista (Bruce) Hoerr; they each have grown children as well.
Maggie was always active and loved to travel and garden. Maggie will be remembered as a woman who was full of life and energy, never afraid of a wrestling match with her oldest son, to tackle a new hobby or craft, and loved to watch her grandchildren, her pride and joy, play and perform.
