Mark J. Beitzel, 72, of Kiel, passed away Saturday evening, November 30, 2024 at his home, of an apparent heart attack. Mark was born December 3, 1951, in Manitowoc, to the late Richard and Corrine (Barta) Beitzel. He graduated from Roncalli High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point before attending LTC, where he served as the President of the Student Senate and graduated with a marketing degree. On June 15, 1974, he married the love of his life Kay Ann Voigt at St. Peter's UCC.
At age 16, he started working at the Piggly Wiggly in Manitowoc. After college he began working at Schroeder's Super market in Kiel. He became manager and in 1985, he and Kay purchased the store, renaming it K & M Marketplace. In 1989, they built the new store, renamed it K & M Piggly Wiggly, which he owned with his wife Kay Ann until their retirement in 2014.
Mark was an avid golfer. He played in many leagues and took many winter trips while enjoying the sport. He was a member of the Ryder Cup Team, the Men's Club, and was the secretary/treasurer of the Quit Qui Oc Monday League. Mark's golf buddies were very important to him. He shared many great times with his great friends while enjoying a round of golf.
Mark was a proud supporter of the Kiel Police, Fire, and EMT. He served on the school board, he was active with KEEF and instrumental in building the Fifrick Press Box. In 2004 Mark was honored by the Kiel Kiwanis Club as Citizen of the Year. As a business owner he sponsored youth sports and was a coach for the Youth Soccer League, Additionally, he was a Cub Scout Leader and Past Scout Master. He also played in various softball leagues and bowling leagues especially the right handers and left handers. Mark was a past member of St. Peter UCC where served as President of the Consistory. Annual visits to Disney were a highlight for him and his family. Mark and Kay also enjoyed many trips to Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean. More recently, Mark went through his own battle with cancer. He was proud to have won that battle and be a cancer survivor. Mark would be best known to be a dedicated husband, father and papa. He was his children's and grandchildren's greatest supporter and made sure to attend all their school and sporting events.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Kay Ann "Kasey", he is survived by his children, Jennifer (Jeff) Holz and Erik Beitzel (Kimberly) ; his grandchildren, Ryan, Blake and Ellie Holz and Isaak, Monroe and Willow Beitzel; his brother, Michael Beitzel (Gary Kussard); his sister, Ann Beitzel; his brother-in-law, David (Dana) Voigt; his nieces, Brianna (Nate), Brittany (Brandin) and Haley (Ryan) and his furry friends, Cooper, Buddy and Lola. Further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeffrey Beitzel and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eddie and Joyce Voigt.
A funeral service for Mark will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter's UCC (424 Fremont Street, Kiel) Visitation will be held on Saturday, at the church, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. when brief family rites will be held.
