GREENFIELD-Marlene Marie (Tichenor) Holtzclaw, age 89, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. She was born on October 10, 1935, in Letts, IN to the late Oliver and Elsie Tichenor. She graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1953, then attended Georgetown College in Kentucky before ultimately graduating from Indiana State University with a teaching degree. In 1976, she received her masters in education from Ball State University. Starting her teaching career in 1971, she worked at various schools across Indiana, including those in Duggar, Kennard, and Knightstown. She retired from her dedicated service in education in 1994. She married Louis Ray Holtzclaw on September 13, 1953. In their retirement, they built and opened a small golf course in Greenfield called Shekinah on the Brandywine.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, and golfing in her free time. As a minister's wife for 15 years, she was a member of the American Baptist Church and attended Bradley United Methodist Church and Trinity Park United Methodist Church
Marlene is survived by her three children, son Howard (Bindy) Holtzclaw, daughters Donieta Ross and Lisa (David) Jay; as well as her six grandchildren, Kandis (Matt) Powell, Kyle (Jennie) Brouillette, Rachel Holtzclaw, Max Holtzclaw, Hallie Jay, and Sadie Jay; two great-grandchildren, Lennon Powell and Nolan Powell; siblings, Loretta Beck, Irene Herbert, and Marvin Tichenor; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded her in death were her husband, Louis, and her brother, Wesley Tichenor.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Family friend Joey Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
