On Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, Marshall E. Mitchell passed away. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was eighty-seven. Born to Jesse and Josephine Mitchell, Marshall graduated Franklin High School in the class of 1954. He graduated from Franklin College in 1958, and later went on to obtain a Master's Degree in History from the University of Indianapolis in 1974.
Marshall is survived by his forty-four year old son, Mark, and his sister, Norma Dougherty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Dunigan Mitchell, his mother, Josephine Ennis Mitchell, his father, Jesse Mitchell, and his daughter, Christy Anne Mitchell.
Marshall served in the United States Army in Fort Ord, California. He was a middle and high school history teacher for twenty years at Clark-Pleasant Middle School and Whiteland High School. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, Indiana.
Marshall enjoyed traveling throughout the fifty US states, and he could tell you, from memory, what highways or state roads any of the towns he had visited were on. He also traveled to Central America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and had an extensive collection of photos from his travels in the form of over 50,000 slides. He was an outstanding role model for his students, an inspiration to his coworkers, and an excellent provider and caretaker to his family.

Mr Mitchell was my middle school history teacher. He encouraged my love for history and I enjoyed all the slides of his travels. Glad he was in my life- rest well, sir.
