Martha "Jane" Ferguson, a beloved former resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away peacefully at 93 on January 30, 2024, at Richard Owens OSF Hospice in Peoria, Illinois.
Jane was the only child of Joseph Edwin Lewis and Martha J. Slough Lewis of Quincy, Kansas. She was born on July 28, 1930, in Wichita, Kansas. She attended and graduated from Toronto High School in 1948, Baker University in 1952, and Kansas State University in 1955 with degrees in home economics. Jane taught home economics at Lyndon High School, Park College, and the University of Wyoming. In her college degrees she specialized in textiles. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing dresses, formals, and her wedding dress.
Jane married Gilbert Alan Ferguson on June 26, 1960, and they shared nearly sixty blessed years. Jane is survived by her son, Alan (Elaine) Ferguson, and two grandchildren, Mel Ferguson and Matthew Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, her parents and one grandchild Ryan Ferguson.
Jane was a homemaker and small business owner. In 1975 they moved the operations of Quincraft from Quincy to Fredonia. There they carried on Jane's family's business of producing the Atom Pop popcorn poppers until 2005. Jane and Gilbert loved being a part of the Fredonia community. Jane's life was one of service with the United Methodist Women, PEO, and various church activities. They were active members of the Fredonia community, participating in various organizations.
Memorial gifts can be made to the Fredonia First United Methodist Church or the Fredonia Food Bank.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Richard Owens OSF Hospice Center for their care. They are also very thankful for the love and care from Jane and Gilbert's many friends during their last years in Fredonia.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 9, 2024 at Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 402 North 8th, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
Interment will follow services at Fredonia City Cemetery.
