Mary Grace Farrell (nee Cassidy) passed away Sunday, June 1 st, 2025, in the presence of her loving children and grandchildren. Mary Grace was married for 61 years to the love of her life, James Farrell, whom she lost last year. Together, they raised 5 children. She is survived by Marygrace (Mitchell Billek), Alicia (Robert Prender), Matthew (Keri Schurmann), James (Janice) and Kathleen (Howard Gaber) and was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Dr. Kaitlynn Gaber, Ryan and Daniel Billek, James, Jack and Jarret Farrell, Madison Triano, Kennedy and Connor Farrell and Robert Prender and her sister Karen Brown.
Given the moniker mean Aunt Mary Grace by her nieces and nephews, "Meany" was a force to be reckoned with. Born in Scranton, PA to Mary and James Cassidy on a warm day in May, Mary Grace spent her youth in Pittston attending Catholic school and continuing her education at Marywood College, where she obtained her degree in the art of Home Economics. She found her calling as an educator and worked for 28 years as a teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, first teaching Home Economics and Bachelor Living, eventually becoming the head of the religion department. What she loved most was her family, her friends, and the Yankees. She might not have remembered everyone's birthday, but she remembered the starting lineup for every Yankee team since the mid-1970s.
She traveled the world with her love, her friends, and her family. She took all her grandchildren to Disney for their 6th birthdays and never met an Irish coffee she didn't like. Her happiest memories were time spent with her grandchildren, sitting in her Yankees season seats with her sons, cheering on her team, and celebrating St. Patrick's Day with the "usual suspects". Meany did everything with purpose, she left a mark on the students that she taught, her children whom she loved, and her friends whom she cherished. She's back in the arms of her beloved Jimmy, which is a comfort to those she's left behind.
A Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. Metuchen.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 9:45am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am at St. James the Less Roman Catholic Church in Jamesburg. The interment will immediately follow in Holy Cross Burial Park in Jamesburg.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Mrs. Farrell inspired so many students--including me--at St. Thomas Aquinas. She had so many profound effects on me. She encouraged service. She fought for the vulnerable, and showed us how to do that with grace. She lived her faith. May she rest in peace.
