Mary Jean Long Simmons

WINDSOR, NC - Mary Jean Long Simmons, aged 83, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Windsor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Windsor, North Carolina. Mary was born on February 1, 1942, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to loving parents Joseph Linwood Long and Elma Mae Holloman Long.
Mary dedicated many years of her life working as a finisher in the textile industry, contributing diligently and faithfully to her trade. Outside of her professional life, she found joy and fulfillment in dancing, a passion that brought her immense pleasure. Mary also enjoyed the tranquility of fishing and took great pride in her yard, finding contentment in keeping it well-maintained and beautiful. Mary Jean Long Simmons will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Simmons; her sister, Elaine Conner; and a dear friend, George Phillips. Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth carried forth by her surviving family, who cherish her memory.
Mary is survived by her sons, Joseph "J.D." Daniel and his wife, Penny, of Woodland, and Carlton Daniel, Jr. of Cofield. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Bo Daniel of Woodland, Casey Odom (Ivy) of Aldie, VA, Donna Odom of Murfreesboro, Jack Daniel of Cofield, Courtney Daniel of Newport News, VA, Logan Daniel of Cofield, and Katie Daniel of Cofield. Her great-grandchildren, Jackquline Daniel, Kailyn Daniel, Jackson Daniel, Sawyer Daniel, Raelyn Daniel, Charlene Daniel, Kayla Morris, Colton Morris, Zoey Scott, Piper Scott, Charlie Reed, and Ty'anna Thompson, Ty'Renee Thompson, will continue to celebrate Mary's vibrant spirit. Her loving sister, Peggy Fajna, of Engelhard, along with nephews Jonah Harrell of Roanoke Rapids, Mark Harrell of Roxobel, and Steven Lassiter of Engelhard, also survive her.
In keeping with the wishes of the family, a private burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, North Carolina.
