Mary Moseley Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Dr Mary June Moseley passed away surrounded by her family on August 18, 2025 in Ashburn, Virginia. She was born on October 13, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas to Frederick Millard and Dorothy Lindsay Field.
Mary June was a life-long learner and was open and curious about many things. She loved to spend time with family and friends, to travel, read, solve crossword puzzles, and knit. She enjoyed the arts and delighted in going to a symphony, ballet, or a Broadway show. She was a compassionate listener and friend to many, and she loved being "Nonnie" to her grandchildren.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and a master's and PhD from Kent State University, all in speech pathology. While she taught at several schools, she spent the majority of her career at Gallaudet University in Washington DC where she taught in the graduate school, coordinated the speech-language clinic, and conducted research. She was highly regarded by her students and colleagues as an educator, mentor, and friend.
Mary June is survived by her daughters, Julie Parsons (Lexington KY) and Laurie (Steve) Hughes (Ashburn VA), grandchildren Stephen (Kaitlyn Hill) Parsons, Michael Parsons, Emily Hughes, and Paul (Brooke) Hughes, great-granddaughter Oakley Mae Hughes, and three nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Karen Field, and her son-in-law, Ray Parsons.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM on October 4, 2025 at Central Christian Church, 205 E Short St, Lexington KY. We invite you to wear something purple, which was her favorite color.
We especially want to extend our gratitude to the staff at Waltonwood Ashburn and to the hospice care team at Capital Caring Health for their compassionate care of our mom in recent months.
In lieu of flowers we would ask you to consider a donation in her memory to Heifer International (Donor Services, 1 World Ave, Little Rock AR 72202), Capital Caring Health (3180 Fairview Park Dr, Suite 500, Falls Church VA 22042), or the Alzheimer's Association ( PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011).
