AHOSKIE, NC - Matthew Raleigh Johnson, born December 8, 1983, in Hertford County, North Carolina, passed away on December 17, 2024, at the age of 41. His journey began and concluded in his beloved hometown, a testament to his deep roots and connection to the community he cherished.
Matthew Raleigh Johnson, a devoted father, best friend, and cherished member of his community, passed away on December 17, 2024, at the age of 41. Known for his boundless love, unwavering kindness, and unshakable spirit, he touched the lives of everyone he met. Matthew was a man who never hesitated to lend a hand or offer support to anyone in need. He was the kind of person who made life brighter for those around him, always showing up with a smile, a warm heart, and a willingness to help. He carried the weight of the world with grace and taught those close to him the true meaning of selflessness and love. More than anything, Matthew loved his family and his children-they were his entire world. His bond with his son was something truly special; his son wasn't just his child but his very best friend. They shared laughter, deep conversations, and countless memories that will forever be cherished. Sophia was his number one best friend. They shared so many great memories. Moments of every second they spent, was with a smile that will never be forgotten. Matthew will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his infectious humor, and his steadfast commitment to those around him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his life.
Beyond his professional life, Matthew was a man of varied interests and passions. An avid hunter and collector, he relished the thrill of the chase and the joy of discovery. Known for his willingness to lend a helping hand wherever needed, he was a beacon of support and kindness to those around him. A mischievous spirit, he often humorously found ways to get his sister into trouble, a playful testament to their close bond.
Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents; Archie and Virginia Johnson and Robert and Marion Jackson; uncles, David Jackson and Wayne Johnson. He is survived by his devoted parents, Raleigh and Linda Jackson Johnson of Ahoskie; his beloved son, Gavin Johnson of Ahoskie; his cherished daughter, Sophia Johnson of Ahoskie; his loving sister, Sherri Eure, and her husband Daniel of Gatesville; Rebekah Farrow, the mother of his children and his best friend; aunts and uncles; Earl Johnson and wife Cindy of Ahoskie, Ann White and husband Tony of Ahoskie, Dorothy Hall of Ahoskie, Linda Dunlow and husband Jimmy of Ahoskie, Robert Jackson of Lake Waccamaw, Steve Jackson and wife Meg of Louisiana, James Jackson and wife Kathy of Lake Waccamaw, and John Jackson and wife Iris of Currie, and numerous cousins, and other family members who will remember him fondly.
Pallbearers will include Sherri Eure, Daniel Eure, Brent Johnson, Will Bracy, Kevin Harrell, and Josh White.
Services to honor Matthew's life will be held beginning with a visitation on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of his life will take place the following day, Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM, also at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, with Pastor Steve Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.
