Matthew Hagan "Matt" Sweets

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew Hagan Sweets on November 6th, 2025. He succumbed to his injuries sustained when a cargo plane crashed in Louisville, Kentucky. Our family is heartbroken by this tragedy.

Matt was born on April 11th, 1988, in Louisville, KY, the son of Michael and Pamela Sweets. He graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School, Trinity High School and earned his BS BA in Marketing at the University of Louisville. He was a dedicated employee as an electrician for Warren Electric Company at the time of death.

Matt loved all sports and was a good athlete who played on many teams. And while he loved the competition, he cherished all the friends he made along the way even more.

His family took shape when he met his partner, Brooke Murray. They have two children, Cohen and Rayne.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry and Billie Greer, Joe and Dorrie Sweets; Uncle Gary Sweets and Aunt Cara Sweets.

Matt is survived by his partner, Brooke Murray, and their children, Cohen and Rayne, parents; Michael and Pam Sweets; two sisters; Carrie Ryan (Clay), and Michelle Sweets, two nieces; Audrey Ryan and Nora Ryan. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

His funeral service will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville Kentucky, 40205, on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at 5:00pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Saturday at Highlands Funeral Home.
