Dr. Robert W. Copley II

Dr. Robert "Bob" Walker Copley II - 73 - passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9th, concluding a beautiful life defined by purpose, generosity, duty, and love.

The eldest child of Robert Sr. and Inos Copley, Bob felt called to a life of service in medicine from a young age. After graduating from Seneca High School and later the University of Louisville and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, he devoted his career to family practice, serving as partner, owner, and operator of Jeffersontown Family Practice. He was honored to care for the Jeffersontown and Louisville communities in that capacity for nearly forty years.

Bob did not measure his life by professional success or community impact, but by the depth and quality of his relationships. Throughout his life he played masterfully his part as dutiful and admiring son, affectionate and steadfast brother, loyal friend to his close-knit and long-held circle, as loving and endlessly generous father, quirky and adoring grandfather to his cherished grandchildren, and as the enamored and devoted husband to his soulmate and wife of forty-five years.

He was a man of wide and varied passions. He loved the beaches of St. Augustine, the mountains of Colorado, the Main Street of Disney World, and the strip of Las Vegas-each more so with family and friends. He loved wine, comedy, and great music (he was himself a drummer as a young man). His boundless intellectual curiosity led him to explore the "big" questions of science, religion, and philosophy, which he studied with rigor and joy. Above all, he adored-and led-the Copley family.

He will be dearly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Elizabeth ("Beth") Copley, and his parents. He is survived by his sister, Rebecca; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert III & Sarah and Preston & Jaime; beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Elizabeth, and Emerson; and his extended community of family and friends.

A private family service was conducted prior to burial. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Bob's honor to the Cedar Lake organization, where he served as Medical Director for multiple decades.
