Maureen B. McCarthy of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, passed away suddenly on June 7th, 2024. She was 78 years old.
Maureen was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in 1963. She received a certificate in business from the Boston Business School following graduation. After receiving her certificate, she worked for the First National Bank in Boston as a secretary.
She met Eugene McCarthy through mutual friends while in high school. They dated for several years before marrying in 1971. Eugene and Maureen built their home in Brockton where they raised their three children. Maureen resided there for 48 years before relocating to Bridgewater after Eugene's passing in 2016.
She maintained her role as a homemaker when her children were little, and went back to work during their elementary years. She worked in customer service at the Holbrook Stop & Shop for over 20 years before her retirement in 2011.
Maureen always attended her children's sports games when they were young. She also liked to go on cruises and spending time with her grandchildren. Maureen was very handy, and was able to fix almost anything. She loved to read and work on the occasional sewing project.
She was a patient, strong, and nurturing mother. She will be remembered for her quiet, caring demeanor, and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Maureen is predeceased by her parents, Timothy Behan, and Rita (Kelleher), her husband Eugene McCarthy, and her daughter Kerriann McCarthy.
She is survived by her children, Meaghan Cerrati and her husband Craig of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Kevin McCarthy and his wife Amanda of Plainville. Sister of Ellen Peterson and her husband Jim of Yarmouthport, and Winnie Behan of Rockland. Grandmother of Sloane, Kellen, Emmitt, Rowen, and Kieran. Aunt of Penny DeMotta and Tim Peterson and their families.
