Maureen and I met the first day of school at John Jay in 1970. It was during a teachers strike and, being a new teacher, I did not know what was happening or what to do. Maureen clued me in, became a close colleague ( we shared ideas and lesson plans for more than 10 years) and we quickly became fast friends, a friendship that lasted for the next 55 years. After I left Jay and moved away, Maureen and I stayed close via phone and visits to each other. She came to Detroit, to California and most recently to Arizona where I live now. We shared a love of books and the theater, trips to "the City" (we once spent a whole afternoon in Bloomie's furniture department!) and so much of our lives, both the sad and the happy events. I had great respect for Maureen. I loved her and valued her friendship. I can hear her voice and her laugh. She will always live in my heart.

Mrs. Skora was my English teacher at JJ. I always loved her class and felt like it helped me to grow as a reader and writer. <3

I met Maureen when I started teaching in WCSD. She was wonderful with my Special Education students. She made me feel part of a team. Always fun. I'm sure she helped shape many lives and will be remembered.

Maureen was a beloved colleague who helped me so much when I joined the English department at a John Jay. Her wit, expertise, support and warmth made her a special friend and she was a consummate teacher loved by her students and her colleagues. Maureen´s light will always shine.
