Melba Jodie Dyer Black was born in 1943 to MC "Joe" and Melba Nadine Dyer. The family moved to Edmond when she was three and to Midwest city when she was 14. Jodie attended Midwest City High School, where she played French horn in the band.
Jodie met John Black and they married in 1964. Jodie had four children [John, Michelle (deceased), Joseph and Kathleen]. She had 11 grandchildren [Raeven Black, Brittany Deusenberry, Bradley Ferrell, Brianna Schladweiler, Bridget Martinez, Brooke Ferrell, Hannelore Clayton, Donovan Clayton( deceased), Violet Clayton, Judah Clayton, Seriff Clayton]. Jodie had four great grand children (Damien, Julian, Emory, and Malcolm Deusenberry)
Jodie was a wonderful homemaker while the children were in school. Jodie was president of the PTO and worked for the school to be on the same schedule as the children. All four children are graduates of Saint Philip Neri school and Mount Saint Mary High School.
Jodie spent most weekends during the summer camping with the family. Midlife found her in an MGB convertible with the kids behind the seats. She worked for many years as an office manager. In 1989, Jodie left her job and went to California to care for her daughter she battled cancer. She enjoyed traveling and made several road trips, mostly to Ohio and California. She took John on a cruise to the Caribbean and vacation in Aruba and Maui. She retired as Office Manager from Interiors for Business.
Jodie spent much of her final years fighting arthritis until cancer took her to be with our Lord May 30, 2022.
