Michael David DeHaven, aged 77, passed away on March 4, 2025. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
He was born on October 20, 1947, in Medina, Ohio, to the late Cecil and Onalee DeHaven. He lived most of his life in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and his later years in Pataskala.
Mike attended Mount Vernon High School and the University of Kansas. In 1970, he was drafted into the United States Army but chose to enlist instead. Scheduled to report to Vietnam, his orders were changed to Germany at the last minute. While in the military, he also served in South Korea, Arizona, and Colorado.
Throughout his life, he worked in various professions and made many good friends along the way. He was an avid golfer though he often spent more money on golf balls than greens fees. He loved collecting tools and jokingly referred to them as his toys. His good friends can attest that he was never lost – he always knew where "he" was.
Above all else, Mike was devoted to his family. He adored his wife of 55 years and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement. Dependable and unwavering, he was someone you could count on whenever you needed him.
To some, Mike might have seemed quiet and unassuming, but to those close to him, he was quick-witted, charming, and often downright ornery. Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and joy.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Nethers); his daughters, Amy Cyrus and Staci DeHaven; and his grandchildren, Bayli Cyrus, Tony Ruark, and Autumn Cyrus. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Finlee Sisco; his brother, Ed DeHaven (Sharon), and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim and Rick DeHaven.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
Day Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Michael DeHaven.
