Obituary
We are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our loving husband, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. Michael David Demchak was born in Canton, Ohio on February 3, 1952. Michael grew up on Plain Avenue in Canton and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1970, Bowling Green State University in 1974, and The University of Toledo College of Law in 1977. Michael practiced law in Canton for forty-six years. Most of those years were spent in private practice and with the office of Coury, Burns, Demchak and Associates.
Michael's Catholic faith was the center of his life. He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. There, he was a Eucharistic minister, a couples discerning marriage counselor, an RCIA instructor, and was habitually involved with various groups and causes within the church. Michael was a loyal Notre Dame football and Cleveland sports fan. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the past few years semi-retired in Sarasota, Florida where his sons, sisters, and extended family reside.
Michael is survived by his devoted and loving wife of forty-two years, Zana (Shaheen) Demchak. She was the love of his life, and his passing has left her broken hearted. Mike loved being a husband and Dad-his love for God and his family was unconditional. His passion in life was to help and counsel friends and family. He supported and devoted a significant amount of time to The Crisis Pregnancy Center and EWTN Catholic Radio Network.
He is survived by his wife, Zana; sons, David and Chuck; sisters, Barbara Johanning (Tom), Carol Shori; numerous nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law Betty Shaheen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anne Demchak, and his sister Beverly Kastein.
Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will also be receiving on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. in the church, with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Entombment to follow at North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to EWTN Catholic Radio Network or St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

I knew Mike from way back in grade school at St. Peter, and in high school at STA. We played basketball on the same CYO team. We met again when I came back to practice law in Canton. A true gentleman, always smiling, and a gracious friend. My condolences to his lovely wife and family. He was one of the good guys.

I met Mike only a year ago in Sarasota. It did not take long to see what a genuine and wonderful man he was. His smile lit up every room he walked into. As we Greeks say: "Eonia Ym Nimi". May his memory be eternal. Steve (and Holly) Maragakes

To Zana and sons,
I am utterly shocked to hear of Michael's passing. He was a great friend, running companion, Y Member of the Athletic club. He was the kindest of souls and we always had great conversations during our many excursions whether it be running, playing golf or just sitting at the tables in the Downtown Y. Michael and I were close friends for 57 years. He was one of the kindest, considerate, compassionate and loyal persons I ever met. Michael was also a lot of fun. Sandra, Gussy and the rest of us who grew up with him on Plain Avenue unfortunately cannot share. Michael always put others needs before his. But what separated Michael was his deep faith. He lived it. We all learned much from him. He loved his dear Zana. They were two peas in a pod. He loved Dave and Chuckie dearly. Whenever we spoke about them, his face lit up. He loved his dear Sisters and their families. He loved his dear Mom and Dad, Betty and his second Dad next door, Jack Assails. Lastly he loved all the rest of us, his dear friends. Michael would want us all to be strong now despite our grief and put things in God's hands. He is on the other side waiting for us. We will see him again. God rest Michael Demchak's dear soul and may perpetual light shine upon him.

Zana and Family,
We are still in shock. There are not enough wonderful adjectives to describe Mike. He truly was a light to others and kindness and love to others were his trademark. Practicing law with Mike was a pleasure and joy. He was a true and compassionate friend who always had time to listen and help if he could. His belief in God was contagious and truly exemplified in every aspect of his daily life. Mike was such blessing to the lives of so many. He will be truly missed by all.
Zana, David , Chuck and the rest of the family, may God bless you with his peace and comfort during this very difficult time. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love you all,
John and Debra Coury

Michael handled the Will and Trust of several family members, including myself. I would often see Michael in church and we would always catch up on how things were going. He was a great friend and supported me with my job search. I will definitely miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Michael was one of my best friends for the past 57 years. He was kind, generous, empathetic, always put others before himself and loving. He was also much fun.
