Michael "Mike" Brian McLaughlin

Michael "Mike" Brian McLaughlin, son of Elizabeth Wahl and Gerald McLaughlin, was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on February 14, 1959. After a brief and bravely fought battle with pancreatic cancer, Mike passed away peacefully at home in Bluffton, South Carolina, on June 29, 2024.
Mike grew up in the Hartford area where he attended the Westminster School. He went on to study at Bucknell University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Economics and English in 1981.
Mike began his career in New York City, starting at Irving Trust Company for three years. He then worked at Lord, Abbett & Co. for over fifteen years in New York and Boston, becoming the youngest named Partner at the firm. Mike continued his career at SEI Investments in the New York area for over six years, followed by a five-year tenure at Gerstein Fisher & Associates, Inc. in New York. He later worked for over two years with NFP Advisor Services in Austin, Texas, before spending over six years at Dimensional Fund Advisors in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mike retired to Bluffton, South Carolina, in 2021 after a long and rewarding career. Throughout his professional journey, Mike focused on developing and maintaining strong personal relationships with financial advisors and their clients, helping them manage their individual investment needs.
Mike was a passionate fly fisher, golfer, wine enthusiast, and devoted fan of all Boston sports teams. He played baseball and basketball in his youth, earning the nickname "Stickman" in basketball-a name many old friends still called him, or simply "Stick." He had a deep love for music, particularly classic rock, and found great joy in attending concerts with friends and family. Mike also loved to cook and host dinner parties, bringing joy to himself and his guests whether on the grill or in the kitchen. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh and bring happiness into their lives.
Mike is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Susan "Missy" Z. McLaughlin; his two sons, Andrew "Andy" J. McLaughlin (wife Taylor) of Wilton, Connecticut, and Thomas "Tom" H. McLaughlin (wife Stephanie) of Steamboat, Colorado; and his two granddaughters, Madeline "Maddie" and Georgina "Georgie" McLaughlin. His faithful and loyal rescue dogs, Hasty and Buddy, were always at his side.
In the fall, the family will host a celebration of life at Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York.
