Michael Mundt, 76, of
McHenry, Illinois, passed away on November 18, 2025. Born on October 6, 1949, in Sheboygan, WI, he carried a lifelong love for his hometown. Mike attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Maine West High School in Des Plaines, IL.
He also attended Harper College (Palatine, IL). He worked for Des Plaines Lumber & Coal as well as Hines Lumber for most of his adult life. He married Mary Jo on June 12th, 1971. They moved to
McHenry, IL, in 1977.
Mike was a devoted family man-beloved spouse to Mary Jo, proud father to Tyson and Aaron, cherished grandpa to Emily and Merin, and fiercely loving "Papa" to Madden, Theodore, and Bauer. He was also a loyal friend and neighbor, known for the genuine care he showed to everyone in his circle. Mike lived a life full of simple joys and meaningful moments. He loved traveling, especially visits back to Sheboygan and trips to see family in Colorado.
He enjoyed following sports, woodworking, working outside and growing his garden. His sense of humor, generosity, and strong work ethic were constants throughout his life. He was known for turning every story into something a little longer than it needed to be. Some of his favorite pastimes included long walks along Lake Michigan, bike rides around his community, and memorable supper club visits to Ishnala with his family.
Mike was known for being genuine and pure to everyone around him. His circle was large and he continuously gave his time to those around him. Although his time here has ended, his legacy of compassion, kindness, and loyalty will continue to inspire everyone who knew him.
As we say goodbye, we carry with us the lessons he taught us about love and taking advantage of life's opportunities. Mike is survived by his spouse, Mary Jo (Trickey); his sons, Tyson Mundt (preceded in death by his wife, Joanne) and Aaron Mundt; grandchildren, Emily Pavelsek (Christopher Pavelsek) and Merin Klug (Mitch Klug) ; and great-grandchildren, Madden Klug, Theo Pavelsek, and Bauer Klug.
