Michael Louis Sweeney Jr

Michael "Mike" Louis Sweeney, Jr., age 51, of Erie, passed away at home surrounded by his children on Sunday, March 31, 2024. He was born in Erie on June 19, 1972, son of the late Michael Louis, Sr. and Judith Hawkins Sweeney.

Mike was very dedicated to his work, having installed carpet since he was 18 years old, beginning with Cohen's Carpeting and later at Joe B's. He loved his coworkers and colleagues. Mike also worked weekends at the Zodiac Diner, where he adored the many regulars. He enjoyed nature, especially kayaking, and spending time at Presque Isle. Mike was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved his Blue Lights. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his children.

Mike is survived by his two children, Karly E. Torres (Johnathan) and Michael J. Sweeney (Logan); mother of his children, Kristen Sweeney; two brothers, Christopher Bonaminio and Sean Sweeney; and many loving colleagues and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anita Bonaminio; and two brothers, Joseph Bonaminio and Mark Bonaminio.

Mike was not defined by his illness. He will be remembered for his strength, courage and dignity, which was exhibited throughout his journey.

Private arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Mike was very patriotic and loved honoring our veterans. Memorial contributions may be made to the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home, 560 East 3rd Street, Erie, PA 16507.
