Michael David Yeagley, age 79, of Louisville, OH passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was born March 3, 1943 in Port Clinton, OH to the late Daun and Katherine Yeagley. Mike was a 1961 graduate of Minerva High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kent State University and did post graduate studies at Harvard University.
Mike was corporate architect for AEP for 10 years before he started his firm of Yeagley and Associates Architects, working closely with his son David. Mike's pervasive architecture can be found throughout Stark County. If you drive through Louisville, you'll see his creative talents in the YMCA, Giant Eagle, Eagle's Club, Grinder's Plaza, Subway Plaza, Biery Cheese, HP Products Office, Louisville Leopards Stadium, Beau Chemin Condo development and many more. Some of his other favorite projects included YWCA Gateway House II, where he received ICAN Housing Solutions Design Award and the OCCH Award of Excellence for Architecture. The Regal Metal's office building in Minerva, the Stifel Office building in Canton, the Bank 1 Center in Alliance, Elite Cryogenics buildings in Dover and Austin, TX, Wilkshire Golf Club, and his home of 50 years in Louisville, were other notable projects.
Mike lived a life of service to his community. He was a 52-year member of the Louisville YMCA, a member of the Board of Directors for most of those years, and a Volunteer of the Year. Mike was honored with the Stark County Red Triangle award, the highest honor granted from the YMCA. He was a 50-year member of the Louisville Rotary Club where he served as President, was honored as Rotarian of the Year, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was inducted into the Minerva High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 2012, for his civic and professional contributions. Mike was past-chairman of the Louisville Planning and Zoning committee, past-chairman of the Louisville Planning Zoning of Appeals, and on the City Architectural review committee.
Mike was an active traveler and in numerous sports. Mike was selected for a Rotary business group study exchange trip to Austria, where he worked with architects for several months. When Mike wasn't traveling, you could find him running with his lunchtime YMCA running club, golfing in numerous golf leagues, playing tennis on Thursday nights, and downhill skiing at resorts throughout the world. In all these activities, he was surrounded by his treasured family and lifelong friends.
Mike married the love of his life, Cynthia (Leedy) Yeagley, 58 years ago. They raised two children, David (Laurie) Yeagley and Jennifer (Greg) Anderson; and have seven grandchildren, Abigail, Logan, Nathan, Hannah, Annika, Beck, and Amelie.
Funeral services will be 11am Friday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville. Calling hours will be 5-7pm Thursday evening and 10-11am Friday morning at the funeral home. Mike will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH. In memory of Mike, memorial contributions may be made to the Louisville YMCA 1421 South Nickleplate, Louisville, OH 44641 or Umbrella Alley, PO Box 448, Louisville, OH 44641. My sincere condolences to Cindy and family. Mike was one my very best childhood friends from third grade through our college years. I have such great memories of our growing up together and regret that we have not been in close touch for many years aside from our high school reunions. We shared many good times and life experiences in our early years, including aspirations to become architects. He did so very successfully while I took another career path. Our last time together, like others over the years, was one of immediate reconnection despite the passage of time . I'll never forget him and will forever treasure our friendship. R.I.P, Mike.
