Michaela Bernadette Drabic, age 74, broke the chains of this life and transitioned to a place of light and love on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at UPMC Hamot. Michaela made her transition with her beloved children Melissa and Jason holding her hands.
Michaela was born on June 11, 1949 in Wellsville, NY the daughter of the late, Maria Michalegko and Jack Slawson. She spent many of her formative years in Genesee, PA surrounded by a loving extended family before moving to Erie. Michaela attended Strong Vincent High School, graduating in 1967. After graduation she was employed by Marquette Savings Bank and Loan, until the time she started a family in 1972. At that time, Michaela's focus was caring for her family and working within the family business in any way she could. She loved crafting, sewing and antiquing. Michaela was an accomplished cook and loved cooking for family and friends. No one could make meatballs like Michaela.
Michaela's "happy place" was her family homestead on the banks of the Genessee River. She had many happy memories of opening days of fishing and deer season. She was her happiest sitting on the front porch with her family watching the river flow by.
In addition to her parents, Michaela was preceded in death by her brother, G. John Slawson.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Nier (Charlie), her son, Jason Drabic (Alli) and her grandchildren, Hannah Drabic, Lukas Nier and Dylan Nier. She's further survived by her ex-husband and friend, David Drabic.
