Mitzi Spears, 68, of Marianna, FL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones on September 26, 2025.

Mitzi was born on August 4, 1957, in Champaign, Illinois, to the late William and Betty Harrison. As a military child, she traveled often with her parents and grew up experiencing many places and cultures. She graduated from Fort Walton High School, where she met the love of her life, Ricky Spears.

Mitzi and Ricky, then sweethearts, traveled to Arizona where they both enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completing AIT, they were married on June 12, 1976, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 50 years. After their time in the service, they welcomed their daughter, Tasha, on July 28, 1981. In 1989, the family moved to Marianna, FL, where Mitzi later retired from the Bureau of Prisons in 2009 after 20 years of service.

A devoted member of Christian Center Church in Marianna. She loved music, dancing, cruises, and spending time outdoors.

Mitzi was preceded in death by her parents, William and Betty Harrison; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Banes; and her uncles, Omar and Gene Canull.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ricky Spears; daughter, Tasha Nicholson (Drew); son, Mark Obar (Kim); grandchildren, Hailey Nicholson, Harrison Nicholson, and Madison Junger (Austin); great-grandchild, Presley Junger; her adopted brother, Tim Matz; adopted sisters, Debbie Beck, Denis Aase, Marcel Metoyer, and Evelyn Traynom; and adopted daughters, Leigh Ann Spooner, Jenni Everett, and Kristina Allen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.
