**A Time to Be Born**
Nancy Corine Dunton Gumbs, the youngest daughter of the late Pearlie and Charlie Dunton, Sr., was born on November 12, 1945, in Eastville, Virginia, on the picturesque Eastern Shore. Raised in a loving, faith-filled home, Nancy's roots in her community and in Christianity ran deep from the very beginning of her life.
**A Time to Live**
Nancy's spiritual journey began early in life when she gave her heart to Christ and became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Eastville, Virginia. She received her education in the Northampton County Public School System and graduated from Northampton High School in 1962. Determined to make a difference in the world, she went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Norfolk State University.
**A Time to Serve**
Nancy's passion for helping others led her to a fulfilling career in healthcare. Her nursing journey began in Brooklyn, New York, where she worked at Kings County Hospital. It was in Brooklyn that she met and married Harold Alberto Gumbs, and the two shared a deep bond and a beautiful life together. After starting a family, Nancy returned to the Eastern Shore to raise her children, becoming a fixture of the local medical community. She worked at Shore Memorial Hospital in
Nassawadox, Virginia, before spending the latter part of her career at Fresenius Medical Center, where she retired after 35 years in 2015, having led the dialysis unit with dedication and compassion.
Nancy's commitment to serving others extended beyond her work in the medical field. She was a dedicated volunteer, always ready to help those in need-whether at local shelters during storms, supporting loved ones through health challenges, or contributing to the Nursing Ministry at Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Nancy was known for her warm, infectious personality, kindness, and generosity. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with family. Her home was a place where family gathered regularly for cookouts, pokeno games, spades, and simple quality time together. It was a place where cousins and relatives came to reconnect and share in the love that Nancy so freely gave.
**A Time to Die**
After a courageous battle with illness, Nancy peacefully passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 78. Though her family was not ready to say goodbye, they take comfort in knowing that she has gone on to her eternal reward, where her labor has ended, and she is now at peace with the Lord. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
