Nancy J. Scott, a beacon of unwavering love and kindness, left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on August 9, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Tioga Center, NY. Born on December 3, 1947, in Endicott, NY, Nancy's life was a tapestry of deep family connections, a passion for nature, and a legacy of nurturing those around her.
Her heart belonged to her loving husband, LaVerne "Skip" R. Scott, Jr., whom she married on December 10, 1965. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories. Nancy's nurturing spirit shone brightly through her daughters and sons-in-law, Amy Jo and Robert Hodges, Dawn Marie and Fred Davidson, and her beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Nikole, David, Ryan, Joshua, and Carly. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.
Nancy was the sister and friend to Allen (Susan) Card, Robert (Bonnie) Card, and Joyce Fuller. She also held a special place in her heart for her sister-in-law, Dorothy Card, and Skip's siblings, Thomas (Pat) Scott, James (Sheryl) Scott, Brian (Misty) Scott and Judy Scott. Her life was further enriched by the presence of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Lula (Burrell) Card, her daughter Wendy Scott, and a grandson, Frederick.
An alumnus of Owego Free Academy, class of 1965, Nancy's work ethic and versatility were evident through her varied career. She proudly served her community in several capacities, including as a cook at Phil's Chicken House, the Owego Treadway, McDonald's, and the Riverview Manor Nursing Home. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her family and friends.
Nancy's passion for life was reflected in her many interests. She found solace and joy in her garden, where she tended to her flowers and watched over the hummingbirds that frequented her sanctuary. Her adventurous spirit was fulfilled by bike rides and motorcycle journeys with Skip, often culminating in a cozy diner for lunch. Her grandchildren fondly recall picking apples and making applesauce with her, a testament to the simple yet profound ways she influenced their lives.
A devoted fan of the soap operas "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful," Nancy enjoyed her nightly discussions with her daughter Amy, dissecting each episode's twists and turns. These shared moments were a source of laughter and companionship.
Nancy's legacy is one of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Her presence was a comforting embrace to all who knew her, and her influence will be felt for generations to come. Her life was a reflection of the values she held dear, and the impact of her gentle spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, August 17th from 10 to 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A service of sharing memories and the special gift Nancy was to all of us will follow. Nancy's departure from this world leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but the memories she created will forever be a guiding light for her loved ones. Her life was a beautiful journey that touched many, and she will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
