Nicholas James Thomas

Nicholas James Thomas passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the age of 71 in Layton, Utah. Born on May 22, 1953, in Van Nuys, California, Nicholas was the youngest of five children born to Grant Otto Thomas and Clotele Olson Thomas.
Violin playing Nick graduated from Orem High School in 1971 and continued his education at Brigham Young University. While there, he shared his musical talent with the choir, touring Europe. He had a deep love of classical music and would sit down to play Clair de Lune at any piano he encountered. His deep commitment to his faith led him to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Paris, France from 1972-1974.
On August 21, 1976, Nick married Debra Harding Thomas in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they brought eight children into the world, all of whom have artistic and musical talents.
Nick's professional life was marked by a variety of roles. He explored numerous fields, including sales for Living Scriptures, holding a realtor license, working for Sprint, selling travel vouchers, engaging in multi-level marketing, and eventually running his own internet marketing business. However, he spent the majority of his working years as the owner and operator of the chain of Beehive Bookstores across Utah and Nevada, a role that allowed him to immerse himself in the church doctrine and culture he so deeply valued.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, stillborn son Timothy Paul Thomas, and son-in-law Richard Schmutz.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Debbie, and their children: Nikki Anne Schmutz, Shannon Marie Kotter (Shawn), Carrie Janette Widdison (Jake), Richard James Thomas, Stephanie Clotele Thomas, Samuel Evan Thomas, and Jacob Jeremiah Thomas. He is also survived by three brothers, one sister, and their spouses, 14 beautiful grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM, at the Fairfield 2nd Ward, 846 N 1150 E, Layton, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Myers Mortuary, 250 N Fairfield Rd., Utah and 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior at the church. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery, near his son Timothy.
