Norman Franklin Board passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025 at the age of 93. Born on January 4, 1932 in Roanoke, Virginia, Norman lived a long, remarkable life. He was a true force of nature who left a positive impact on all those he knew. He never shied away from a challenge, always saw the best in people, and possessed an endless amount of optimism and energy.
Norman joined the United States Marine Corps during high school and served in the Korean War. He was a combat veteran who endured one of the fiercest battles of the war: the Chosin Reservoir. This experience would have an everlasting impact on how Norman conducted his life. To his family and friends, the Marine Corps motto, Semper Fi, was his mantra.
Upon returning from the war, Norman married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Butler. He received an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and a masters degree from George Washington University. Norman went on to enjoy a successful career in management consulting while investing in his favorite hobbies: cars and real estate. In addition, he proudly served as president of the Korean War Veterans Association, forging a close relationship with Korean Veterans and the local Korean community.
Tragically, Patricia was killed in a car accident in 2002, after 48 years of marriage. Norman later married Joan Patek, settling in Atlanta, Georgia. Joan passed away in 2023.
Norman was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, and his second wife, Joan. He is survived by his two sons, Christopher and Curt, daughter in-law, Monti Board, stepsons James and Jeff Patek, grandsons, Colson and Brady Board, nephew, Chip Board, friend and caregiver, Judy Fincher, and his second family, Ron and Carol Kerr.
A visitation service will be held at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home, 5051 Peachtree Corners, Georgia, on Tuesday, August 5, from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 11:00 AM at Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, Georgia. A reception will follow the service. The graveside service will be held on Friday, August 8 at 1:00 PM at Hollywood Cemetery, 412 South Cherry Street, Richmond, VA 23220.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers foundation, honoring America's first responders, veterans, and their families at t2t.org.
