Laurel A. Ogurkis, age 84, of White Township, NJ passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Hospice House in Bethlehem, PA, following a serious fall. Laurel was born July 4, 1941 in Easton, PA. She is the daughter of the late Elmer and Dorothy (Pursel) Hart.
Laurel was a graduate of Hackettstown High School class of 1959, and of East Stroudsburg State College. She began her career as a first grade teacher in Manville, NJ.
It was in Manville that she met her husband, Joseph Ogurkis. For many years they lived in Hillsbourgh, NJ and raised two sons, Mark (Linda) and Daniel. During that time she also worked as a clerk for the VA. Following Joe's death, she moved to White Township.
In addition to her children, Laurel is survived by her grandchildren Shannon, Christian (Alexa), Jason, Matthew, Gianna, Grace, Andrew and Allie. She is also survived by her sister Nellie Creager and several nieces and nephews.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection and celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the United Presbyterian Church of Belvidere, 224 Mansfield Street, Belvidere, NJ, with her friend and Pastor the Reverend Doctor Pamela Szurek officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am followed by a burial at Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery.
