Doris Goedeke (Ora Doris Collins), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, just shy of her 100th birthday. She was born on February 25, 1925, in Conroe, TX, to John and Lynn Collins. Doris graduated from Willis High School where she excelled in tennis and basketball.
During WWII, the family relocated to Houston where Doris became employed by Brown Shipbuilding. It was during this time in 1944 that she met her future husband, Henry (Hank) Goedeke, on a blind date. Their connection was immediate, and they married several months later just prior to Hank's discharge from the U.S. Army Air Corps. Hank took her back home to New Jersey where they started their family. In 1961, the family relocated back to Houston when Hank transferred from Standard Oil NY to Humble Oil Co. (Exxon).
Doris was blessed with four children and her home was filled with love, laughter, and the joy of gatherings of family and friends. Her children and grandchildren are blessed with wonderful memories of weekends and holidays spent at their place at Pirate's Beach.
Doris was preceded in passing by her husband Henry and eldest son Ken. She is survived by her daughter Dar Marches, daughter-in-law Joy Goedeke (Ken's wife), son Alan and former wife Shannon, Jon and wife Toni; nine grandchildren: David Marches, Cathy Pittenger, Tiffany Marches, Greg Goedeke, Erik Goedeke, Kelsey Havel, Kyle Goedeke, Jordan Goedeke, Ross Goedeke; 18 great grand children and one great-great grandchild.
She was a woman of great warmth, kindness, strength and, especially, humor! Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory forever cherished by her family and friends.
